Kathmandu — H.E. Dr. Piotr Antoni Świtalski, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Republic of Poland to India, conferred the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland upon Honorary Consul General Mr. Lokmanya Golchha at a formal ceremony held at Hyatt Centric Soalteemode Kathmandu.
As the Republic of Poland does not maintain a resident embassy in Nepal, diplomatic representation and consular coverage for Nepal are provided by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in New Delhi. In this capacity, the Embassy continues to support Polish citizens in Nepal and to foster cooperation and engagement between Poland and Nepal.
The decoration, one of Poland’s highest civilian honours bestowed upon foreign nationals, was awarded during a formal ceremony attended by distinguished guests and members of the diplomatic community. The Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland is conferred on individuals who have rendered exceptional service to the Polish State and have significantly contributed to international cooperation and mutual understanding.
This honour follows a distinguished legacy of service. In 2015, Mr. Lokmanya Golchha was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland by H.E. the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Andrzej Duda, in recognition of his remarkable contribution during the devastating earthquake in Nepal.
The conferment of the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland recognized Mr. Golchha’s outstanding leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as his sustained support, cooperation, and assistance to Polish citizens in Nepal over the years.
In his remarks, H.E. Dr. Świtalski acknowledged Mr. Golchha’s longstanding commitment to advancing cooperation and people-to-people ties, noting that his efforts have played an important role in deepening engagement and strengthening relations.
Mr. Golchha expressed his gratitude for the honour, describing it as a recognition of shared values and enduring friendship between the two countries.
This distinguished award stands as a symbol of sustained commitment, humanitarian service, and the continued strengthening of Nepal–Poland relations.

The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Kathmandu was established in 1991 and is headed by an Honorary Consul General. It supports Poland’s engagement in Nepal by assisting Polish citizens when needed and by promoting cooperation and people-to-people ties between Nepal and Poland, while working in coordination with Poland’s Embassy in New Delhi, which is accredited to Nepal.
