Currently serving as the President of the Economic Media Association Nepal (EMAN) and leading KTM Voice as its Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, his journey reflects a blend of passion, vision, and resilience.

A Journey Rooted in Purpose

Q: Could you briefly introduce yourself and your professional background?
Royal Acharya:

“Thank you for the opportunity. I am Royal Acharya, President of the Economic Media Association Nepal (EMAN), Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of KTM Voice, and a passionate economic journalist. Over the past 15 years, I have been working relentlessly to simplify economic knowledge for the general public. I also run a financial literacy program on National Television, believing that empowering people with financial awareness is fundamental to societal progress.”

The Call of Journalism

Q: What motivated you to pursue a career in journalism, particularly economic reporting?
“From an early age, I was fascinated by how the economy shapes our everyday lives. Yet, I noticed a gap — complex economic topics were often inaccessible to ordinary citizens. Journalism gave me a platform to bridge that gap. I found fulfillment in making these issues understandable and relevant, ensuring people are better informed to make decisions that affect their livelihoods and future.”

Exploring New Horizons

Q: Could you share your experiences regarding your recent travels and reporting assignments?
“Recently, I had the privilege to explore different parts of China — from the bustling innovation hubs of Shenzhen to the cultural treasures of Xi’an, the industrial strengths of Liaoning, and the breathtaking landscapes of Guizhou. Reporting from these regions allowed me to witness firsthand China’s rapid development, its rich traditions, and the spirit of international collaboration. I shared these insights with Nepali audiences through a series of articles, helping to build a more nuanced understanding of our neighbor.”

Media as a Bridge between Nations

Q: How do you view the role of media in strengthening international relations, particularly between Nepal and China?

“Media is more than a storyteller; it’s a bridge-builder. By presenting truthful, balanced, and human-centered stories, media can dismantle misconceptions and create opportunities for cooperation. Particularly between Nepal and China, the media can foster deeper cultural, educational, and economic ties, benefiting both countries in the long term.”

Challenges in Global Reporting

Q: What challenges do you face while reporting internationally?

“International reporting comes with its unique set of challenges — language barriers, cultural differences, and sometimes limited access to information. But I view these as opportunities rather than obstacles. They push me to adapt, learn, and grow as a journalist. Respecting local cultures and preparing thoroughly before any assignment are key strategies to navigate these complexities.”

Broadening Horizons through KTM Voice

Q: You mentioned launching an English version of KTM Voice. Could you tell us more about it?
“Yes, very soon, KTM Voice will launch its English edition. The goal is to present Nepal’s stories to the world — not just news, but narratives of hope, innovation, and resilience. We aim to create a dynamic space where local voices can meet global audiences, particularly focusing on the economy, tourism, culture, and international cooperation.”

Advice for Emerging Journalists

Q: What advice would you give to aspiring journalists, particularly those interested in international reporting?

“My advice would be: stay curious, be committed to the truth, and always respect the diversity you encounter. International journalism is not only about reporting facts but about building bridges of empathy and understanding. Continuous learning, preparation, and integrity are the pillars of a successful journalistic career.”

Vision for the Future

Q: What are your future goals in journalism and media? “In the coming years, I aim to expand the reach of KTM Voice nationally and internationally. I also plan to dedicate more efforts toward media training, promoting financial literacy, and strengthening regional cooperation in South Asia and beyond. The dream is to create a media platform that inspires, informs, and empowers — across borders and generations.”
